This summer has been alot of fun so far! I have been planning activities with the kids and we are all enjoying them. We purchased a YMCA membership and we get for a discounted rate for being a single income family. The membership has benefited our family immensely.
I have been working out 3 days a week while the kids get to play in the play areas, and then we head out to the pool when it opens.
The YMCA supports a summer food program so we get lunch free. The lunch is healthy so that is an added bonus!
I love to take pictures of the kids in their silly moments, or when they are just in their own world exploring.
Aside from going to the YMCA day and night swimming and exercising I have been on a quest to limit our TV/indoor time. I have been trying to find activites for the kids to do outside. If it is hot, then we do it in 30 min. increments. I have found one trick to work well, I keep the fans on and windows open in the house. I have adjusted and so have the children. We just go outside and play in the sprinkler if we get too hot! It serves two purposes: 1. It saves on our electric bill 2. We enjoy more outside time and open window time.
Of course I do turn on the air, but only when it reaches 80 degrees in the house or when I am cooking.
I really want my children to grow up and want to be outside more than inside. I feel like so many kids are missing out on the freedom that we used to experience as kids. We have to shelter our kids more and they don’t get to ride their bikes to the store or play streetball.
Yes, I get hot, but I just carry a bottle of water or get in the water with them! If it is raining we go to the library, or do an indoor art activity.
This is an art project that I found at www.handsonaswegrow.com. You put paint in an empty bottle and shake. VOILA! The kids loved it! They rolled it all over the floor and everywhere.
What fun ideas have you put in place this summer?
