Goal Setting

May 9, 2013 By Michelle Knight Leave a Comment

Goals are something that we all set and try to achieve. Goals make us better at our jobs, homes, kids, hobbies and interests.
Goals cannot be set too high, or too low. Goals have to something that we WANT to accomplish…not another thing on our list of TO DO’s.

Setting goals:  Here is a video by Anthony Robbins.  I have listened to his tapes and CD’s for years.  They are very motivational and explanatory.  I try to take what I learn and tweak it to work for me.

Here are 3 ways to set a quick goal for your week:

1. Pick one thing that you want to achieve for that week.  For instance I wanted to start running on the treadmill for 2 miles at the gym 3x’s a week. So I made an index card and put it on the bathroom mirror.
When I accomplish this goal, I go on on to my next goal and tear up that card.  No need to save it because I have it on my yearly goal list.

2.  If you have a longer goal, put it on an index card with a date to finish.  This helps me to not procrastinate. ( Sometimes I still procrastinate). For example, I have a blanket that I have been trying to finish so I have set my new date to have it complete by 5/30/13.

3. I have read in several places that if you have multiple goals to break them down into pieces that are more achievable.  I tried this, but for me it makes me feel like I am prolonging the process. I am a “let’s git er done” kind of person.  I need to have it crossed of my list.  So I will set a block of time to get it finished.  If not, then I just re-set the next block of time, usually in 2 hour increments. That is what helps me accomplish my goals.
