In case you are thinking about using cloth diapers and seem a bit intimidated….don’t be! They are super easy to use, clean, and maintain. I know because I used to be worried that “I could never use cloth..they are too hard”!
I guarantee that once you use them you will be hooked. Especially when you don’t have any late night diaper runs. That is never fun right before bedtime to realize that you used the last diaper. It is almost like the last roll of toilet paper, you gotta have it!
Now remember these tips are mine, and how I make them work for me. This may not work for you but like with anything else take suggestions and adapt them for your style.
Step 1: Grab the diaper cover and the insert.
Step 2: Adjust the insert so that it lays in the diaper evenly. I do not use the pockets because I do not find them easy.
Step 3: Wrap the diaper around the baby and adjust so it is comfortable. I prefer to use velcro because as the baby gets wiggly I can just fasten the diaper. To me the Velcro is closer to a disposable fastener. I like the ease of getting the diaper on quickly.
Now before I go on as I mentioned my cloth diapers are used from a consignment shop. So wash all diapers when you get them home. If you haven’t read my previous posts, don’t use bleach! It will cause a horrible diaper rash.
- Use two trash cans. One for wipes and disposables if you use them at night. Fill the disposable one with a grocery trash bag. I empty this one every two days.
- Keep wipes handy.
- Use the second trash can for the cloth diapers. Only buy enough diapers to fill the pail. No more is needed. To keep down smell, stains, and odors wash when the pail is full which should be every other day.
See, it is pretty easy. No harder than washing dishes by hand instead of using a dishwasher. It is really better for the baby, and what else do I have to do when I watch TV……besides folding our diapers and having them ready for use!
