Preschool At Home

March 28, 2013 By Michelle Knight Leave a Comment

Preschool at home is wonderful.  I love watching my kids learn.  The way the learn.  Everything around them is a learning process.  I realize  they grow up so fast and I don’t want to miss any moments with them.

Childhood learning is a process that we all go through.  preschool has been around for ages. It’s fine to send a child off to preschool, and they do learn to play with other children, paint, obey the teachers, and even work on potty training.

As for me, I want to watch them learn every thing, just like when they took their first step.
Just like when they said their first word. Now that is not to say that sometimes on a rough day I don’t think that a break would hurt me or them, but we are also learning how to work through problems.  It is helping me to be a better parent.  All of my children in the good and the bad moments teach me something.

For me, when I do not know alot about a subject I go to reading what others say, or do.  I look at the Internet, order books at the library, or buy them from 1/2 price books. Talking to people is another avenue of research that I explore.  Then I take all of the ideas and forumulate the best one that works with me or my family.

I was having trouble with buying so many books for my preschooler.  I wanted him to have a variety of learning, not just from workbooks and crafts.  So, the library provided alot of teacher books.

Out of the vast amount of books at the library, I finally found two or three that I could piece together to create a pretty decent lesson plan.  Although I am new at this, the thought of teaching my son to read is very exciting.  He is only four but really likes to read with my and enjoys his alphabet writing.  I think he will be learning to read next year.

From everything that I have consumed through my research efforts, games, crafts and index cards with recycled products will conduct some of our learning next year.
The index cards have basic words on them.  I wrote out a separate group of cards and created a matching game.  So I line up the products in different areas of the house, or put them on the object and he walks around with his cards and matches up the words.  If he gets them all he gets a little candy surprise!

When we tried it, he loved it.  I had fun watching him have fun!

Anyway, enjoy your kids, and help them learn.  They are only little once.  Even if you are a working mom set the timer and give them 15 min.  Do whatever silly thing they want to do.  Dishes, housework and stress will be waiting at the end of the timer.  That is a learning activity that they will love.

How do you encourage your children to learn and explore?  comment below!
