The word frugal can be used in so many ways. People can be frugal with money, time, possessions and eating. Unfortunately, frugal is associated with money only alot of the time, but as a mom who works in the home, I am finding frugal to be a large part of my day.
Having a schedule is great. Time is of the essence, but we can’t get it all done at once. Sometimes you have to let it go. But, if we are frugal and watch our time, alot more on our schedule will get done.
We have only one income, so I must be frugal with my budget, grocery shopping, gas, and errands. Working at home is a major multi-tasking job with many plates to balance in the day at the right time, or they all come crashing down. Part of the balancing act is knowing when we have too much.
One example comes to my mind today, I was going through socks in the kid’s organizer and noticed that we have enough socks to put on 20 kids. That is ridiculous. So using my “frugal”mindset, I took out all of the socks, and for each child counted out 8 pairs. Now this stems from several months of laundry frustration where I am the one matching up the socks that end up thrown into the organizer not matched up. I don’t know why I did not think of this sooner, to end my frustration.
There are 7 days in a week, so they have 1 extra pair if necessary. The rest will go into storage.
Now, on laundry day I don’t have a crazy pile of socks that no one wants to put together and I end up doing it each week.
I am frustrated over an abundance, so as keeper of this household I take my job seriously. I am working on my time management and just like in a job I need to be efficient with my time.
Matching up a million mismatched socks is not efficient.
If I have just enough socks for them to wear out, then I can replenish as necessary.
How many things just got easier? Laundry, putting away the laundry, saving money on clothes, and time. Frugal means to me being well rounded, with my money, time, gas and errands. Not too much and not too little.
