Discovering Timeline: Homeschool History Caesar Augustus

May 22, 2025 By Michelle Knight Leave a Comment

This week our homeschool history took us to learn about three different topics and a famous landmark. Since history is one of my favorite subjects I always look forward to our timeline day. All of the projects each homeschooler designs is so intriguing for me.

Our story takes us to the time period before Jesus was born, when Rome was an empire, the temple was being renovated, and a new Roman Emperor took his place after Julius Caesar was killed.

Discovering Timeline: Homeschool History Caesar Augustus

Temple of Roma and Augustus

First we start with the temple of Roma, and my youngest homeschooler took the time to build this wonderful structure. He found many resemblances between the White House and this structure. The careful design he chose was creative. First he took pool noodle and cut it into six sections. Then found a shoe box. He cut the shoebox in half. After that, he measured a smaller box to place behind the pool noodles for support.

After he designed his temple he took all of the pieces and spray painted them yellow. To him, that was the closest thing to white, but yet it looked ages. To wrap up the temple he chose a piece of matching construction paper and cut out a triangle to place on the top. I was so proud that he was able to see create something close to what the picture portrayed.

Day in the Life of Caesar Augustus

In addition to the building the temple my youngest homeschooler wrote his paper on the Roman leader who the temple was named after. His paper is graded on only the grammar that he knows up to this point. After researching reputable sites, and looking up information in the history book we own, he devised and wrote his two paragraph paper.

Admirably he wrote his paper and I learned a few new facts. Caesar Augustus was adopted by Julius Caesar, and was 18 when he was killed. Surprisingly he wanted peace. He was the first ruler to ever get a title. Another fun fact was his original name was Octavian. It was quite interesting that my homeschooler realized it was a name from the movie “A Night at the Museum”.

Anna Begins Fasting at the Temple

My oldest homeschooler chose Anna who begins fasting at the temple. His homeschool history paper covered how the events played out so that she would be able to see the Messiah. She fasted at the tempe and lived 84 years.

For his project and presentation my oldest homeschooler used popup art to create a picture of her fasting. It was very detailed and depicted a very good image of her praising God. He chose to use a more shiny paper (photo) due to its flexibility. This change did seem to work out better as an add on in his project. Since we have been presenting each week for almost five years’ he is comfortable talking in front of others’.

King Herod Renovates the Jewish Temple

Finally, my middle homeschooler chose King Herod renovating the temple for his homeschool history final project. He attempted to make a Jewish candle with crayons, but it only stayed lit for a few seconds. It was pretty impressive though to see what he tried to make.

His final paper has to be two pages and he wrote about the temple. He found out that the style of the building was Greco Roman and the final size was 985sq. ft x 1575 sq. ft. The first temple was built by King Solomon (King David’s son). My middle homeschooler made that connection in the Bible as h did his research.

That is one of many reasons why I chose this method of teaching timeline. It helps to make all of the connections so that homeschoolers do not think only one time period is occurring. Multiple events happen during one time period, and I also like that they learn to be comfortable talking to others’ .
