Buy In Bulk To Save More On Meat

April 26, 2024 By Michelle Knight Leave a Comment

Right now my grocery savings plan includes bulk meat purchases. From my research and analysis it looks to be a more cost efficient way to feed our boys’. The price of groceries has skyrocketed in the past few years, so my goal is to keep our shopping on a budget.

Less trips to the store, easy meal planning which makes me want to cook from home more, local meat that I know is healthy and grass fed, but most importantly the cuts of meat are more of a variety than we could afford in the store. Buying meat straight from a farm allows us to eat steak, roasts, and more. There is also a lot of ground beef which is fine for me because we eat a lot of spaghetti and low cost meals.

Less Trips To The Grocery Store

Buying meat in bulk saves me on time because I don’t have to run to the grocery store to grab meat for dinner, and it saves me gas. Going to the grocery store always means I am coming home with more items than I intended to purchase. The reason behind that theory has been provable. I am so predictable because undoubtedly I will see something I need.

Another reason that I stay to once a month shopping is that since I buy meat in bulk then shiny object sales do not catch my eye. We place an order for meat with our local butcher and they call me when it is ready.

Meal Planning Is Easier

Meal planning is easier when you know what you have already. Right now we do not do a lot of fancy meals. I research frugal meals and write down the ingredients. Searching by the meat that I have on hand saves me time researching and buying a bunch of unnecessary ingredients. Roast requires rosemary and Worcestershire. I can plan three different meals around a roast.

Leftovers are also a breeze and that also makes meal planning easier. We keep a standard in our home of eating leftovers, and that allows me an extra day of meals. One way that I use the meat which I have purchased in bulk is to have a specific theme for each day. For example, Monday is Soup day. Having specific days lets me know what meat to lay out for the week.

Better Meat Cut Choices

Buying meat in bulk allows us to get a good variety of meat. Our butcher will ask me how many of each cut that I want. We eat a lot of ground beef and roast, so I go in that direction. Steaks are good, but I do not get that much because we focus on having one meat that can make at least two meals.

Having control over the meat choices that benefit our family is important. I plan our meals around the theme of the day. One day we have chili and that of course renders us to need ground beef. Sunday dinner is pot roast with carrots and potatoes every other week. I like being able to order more of what we eat each meal.

Bulk Meat Is More Local

Finally, I like that buying meat in bulk is more local. Farms that use our purchase to put food on their table is important for us to build up. Every one is feeling the pinch right now so we want to support our local farmers. Another reason that we buy local bulk meat is the fact it saves because they don’t have to pay as many middle men.

Local beef doesn’t go through other states, on boats or across countries. I like to know that our beef hasn’t been subjected to steroids or other unhealthy growth products. Local farmers are more apt to put their best effort and take pride in their product.

There are many ways to save, and buying bulk meat is one way we cut our grocery costs. For more tips on frugal living sign up for my newsletter.
