How To Clean Floors By Hand

March 27, 2015 By Michelle Knight Leave a Comment

Cleaning floors by hand is probably a chore of the past. But, I still clean mine by hand.  Not all the time only once a year.  Even though we have mops, every kind of mop thought of to make the job easier nothing gets ground in dirt better than hand cleaning with a brush.
Mops are great to get the floors clean on an everyday basis, but they actually push dirt into the floor and corners.  If you have ever noticed closely to baseboards, the stove or areas that can be reached well with a mop dirt builds up.  That is why each year I hand scrub all of my floors.
I don’t do it all in one day, but I break it up section by section until at the end of the week it is all done.  This is kitchen and bathroom floors, for my hardwoods I just scrub the corners and behind furniture well.   Hardwoods do not need to be scrubbed to keep dirt off of them.
What do I use?  For my kitchen I use 1/3 cup of bleach and a bucket full of water.  I do not use alot of bleach because of the smell.  It always gives me a headache so I wear a mask when I use it.
Next after you have scrubbed each section of your floor at the end of the week take a mop with just plain water and mop it. If you have an older floor and want shine this is when you would wax the floor.  But wax should only be used after a good scrubbing, and once a year in my opinion.  It creates a buildup of if used too often.
After that, just keep up with regular mopping each week.  Between mopping days just spot clean the floor.  I do!
I would love to hear other ways that you keep  your floors clean so that we might all learn something new! Let us know your favorite way to clean your floors.
Cheers,
Michelle
