Three Easy Steps To Canning Pickles

August 20, 2014 By Michelle Knight Leave a Comment

Last week I went to the grocery store.  Being the frugal person I am my heart did a flip when the price of pickles were $3.99.  Yes, that was the generic brand.  That is a lot in a grocery budget when bought weekly.

Canning may seem old fashioned but last year I saved at least $50.00 on pizza sauce, pasta sauce, and chili mix.  It does seem time consuming, but after one try it really does get easier.  No need to take a class, just grab a book for beginners and get started.

This is my third year and I tried something new…pickles!  They really could not have been easier to make and the directions are simple.

Lucky for me this year was a great year for cucumbers…the rest of my garden, not so much.  By the time I finished canning my efforts yielded 8 quarts.

Three Easy Steps To Canning Pickles:

Step 1: clean canning jars

step 2: buy the mix, organize ingredients and utensils.

step 3: start canning process.

Do you try to can your garden produce each year? If so, what is your specialty? I still think that tomatoes are easy, but now I will be adding pickles to my garden from now on.
