5 Tips For A Salon Pedicure At Home

December 20, 2013 By Michelle Knight Leave a Comment

Spring is coming and our footwear is about to change.  I don’t know about you but as soon as the weather is warm I am in flip flops or sandals.  I used to go around barefoot but with small children and toys everywhere it is a danger zone for feet.

One of my favorite treats is to get a pedicure.  Well, it was one of my favorites until we went down to one income.  I still love them and ask for one occasionally but it is not the every week activity for relaxation I used to treat myself to after work. Now, my treat is just getting a shower and throwing polish on my toenails.  This was my usual habit on friday night after the kids went to bed until I decided that there was no reason I could not do a salon pedicure at home.

First and foremost do not just go and buy supplies.  Wait and get them on sale, with coupons, or at a beauty supply store.  This is a frugal way to pamper yourself so we don’t pay full price for anything.  Buy on sale and save the difference!

5 ways to give yourself a salon pedicure at home:

1. Soak your feet in a small tub with a foot soak.

Even if you don’t want to do a complete pedicure, by just soaking your feet in a tub of warm water with or without a foot scrub can make a bad day good. I usually soak for about 6 min.

2. Grab two washrags and let them soak in really hot water for 5 min.

Then drain the water and wring them quickly. (They are prettty hot!) Wrap one around each foot ( I usually do this in the bathtub).  Let it sit for about 1 min.  This is the most relaxing part of my week! Once you try it you will be hooked.  No really…it is wonderful!

3. Grab a bottle of lotion and massage a small amount into each foot.

Lotion helps to keep the feet hydrated and soft.  There are many different kinds on the market that help with healing, calluses, or just a softening cream. I use Avon foot works lavendar since I am an Avon Representative.  The product is reasonable, works well, and smells good.

4. Paint your toenails your favorite  color, and then add the top coat.

Find a color you love. At the store look around and compare the colors.  Only buy what you will wear. No need for more than one at a time. Buy another when that one is gone.  I use the “only one” rule in my house.  This helps to keep clutter under control. Anyway, I can’t use more than one at a time.  I use Avon nail polish because it is long lasting and they have a lot of the new trendy colors.
Always add a top coat.  It helps the polish dry shiny and it will last longer.

5. Set a timer for 10 minutes and let them dry.

If in a time crunch put on summer sandals so that your toenails can dry at the same time you are getting work done! Sometimes I have only 20 minutes during naptime or right after I put the kids to bed.  When I need to wrap up my day, or accomplish a task I throw on my summer sandals to let them dry!

Try this technique and you will love it. Pick a night that is not so busy and pencil yourself in.  In a couple of months you will have money saved, and beautiful feet! This is a great way to relax and treat yourself at this time of year.

Do you make time to pamper yourself?
