Frugal Home Decorating

August 18, 2018 By Michelle Knight Leave a Comment

Home decorating does not have to be expensive. Frugal home decorating is possible with some creativity.  Selecting frugal home decor may not be as easy as shopping on Amazon, but the option is available.

Most of my frugal home ideas come with a mental list. I know what I want to do in a room, then as I am out shopping the deals appear. Decorating is a process of patience and originality. Knowing where to find good supplies is a good start. Some of my locations are listed below.

Sales at Commercial Stores

When out shopping keep a list of the needs to finish a decorating project. Colors and details will matter. I have been at Rural King grabbing chicken feed and locating the pillow that will match my bedspread. They always have a few shelves at the front for all of their clearance items.

Another place that I look for decorations is JoAnn Fabrics. Good sales matched with a coupon equal great savings! I never leave home without my list, which is either on my phone or on a notecard.

Planning is part of the process of putting together  frugal home decor to love.

Trash to Treasure Deals

Garage sales, thrift stores and hand me downs are how I have found several compliments to my decorating. Repurposing items to work for something that I need. For example, at a thrift store I found an old CD holder. I painted this CD holder and it became a lid organizer for my pots. Salt shakers have become a centerpiece for my table with confetti in them.

A little imagination saves money and adds to frugal home decorating with personal touches. What someone else may use as a spoon could decorate my walls. Look past labels and tweak products. Shop on the days stores have  sales.

Homemade Frugal Home Decorating

Last year we made a wreath. I shopped and shopped and could not find colors to match my front door. So, I made one. It wasn’t hard. The wreath supplies were cheap enough and the time took about an hour. The best part is it became a family activity.

Use other people’s ideas then re-create at a discount. Wreaths at the store without a coupon can be expensive. My homemade wreath was not more than twelve dollars.

Since then, I have been on the lookout for items that I like and can re-create at a much cheaper price.
