As a homeschool mom, I never saw myself becoming a frugal homemaker. Really. If you would have known me 25 years ago, the word frugal is now how you would have described me. But, I am now.
People change, circumstances change, and we evolve. If we do not evolve into the person God leads us to be, then we remain the same. Stagnant. Happiness also comes with change. Frugal homemaking skills make me very happy. Saving money for my family makes me even happier.
Frugal Skills
Learning to make more dinners, and less processed food is a frugal skill. Fine-tuning the art of homemaking takes practice and the desire. We don’t just wake up knowing how to cook from scratch. Then we see all of the dishes we created and run for the first fast food restaurant. Frugal homemaking takes time, effort, and desire. But, it is rewarding.
For me, I started with the basic things that I could not do. I made a list of what I wanted to learn. As I mastered each skill my confidence grew.
Frugal Skill List
Learning to bake bread is a frugal skill. Baking bread, rolls, and muffins and freezing them for the future is also a frugal skill because it helps us to see past today. Spending less money on items that we can make and feed our family.
Planting a bountiful garden in the spring that brings a harvest in the fall is how I started to become a frugal homemaker. From there, my mind began to see other area’s that I could alter to save money. Gardening was the beginning of my fascination to find savings in everyday life and activities. It didn’t stop there though, I would search out more ways to save money. Saving money so that I could stay home and homeschool became my focus.
Making homemade soaps, cleaners, and chemical free bug spray is an area to save a lot of money. It takes a little time to organize the recipes. Fewer trips to the store saved our family on time and gas. Making the cleaners became and easy part of my routine.
Have A Purpose for Frugal Homemaking
LIving a frugal life has to be rewarding to keep doing it. The reward is different for each mom or family who decide to try something new.

I feel like being a homemaker means that I will always have more to learn! It is interesting what you said about changing to the person God wants us to be means that we won’t become stagnant. I think a lot of people feel that God is boring, but it seems he likes change!
I agree. God does like change, especially in us:)
