Weekly Menu Plan

July 22, 2014 By Michelle Knight 1 Comment

I do my menu planning a little differently.  Organization and planning fall to the wayside amongst my busy days’ as a mom of four children.  I can’t always get to what I want to do because I have parenting to do. That is my excuse….at least for  now. My idea of an organized menu planning session is when I reach into the fridge to make something, grab something to drink, or want a quick snack only to find it is nearly empty.

Grocery shopping is on the bottom of my list.  Not one of my favorite places to go. So, I try to limit my time to two times per month.  No, I don’t have set days either.  Wish I did, but I don’t. My life is not perfectly organized, or planned.

For this week’s shopping trip we have a new Farmer’s Market that opened up.  It was really great.  Almost too great.   The prices were very affordable, so I was caught up in the shiny new store, and well now we have a lot of veggies and fruit to eat.  I did still stay in my budget, but let’s just say that our pizza will be having some assorted veggie toppings.

Don’t go into a shiny new store and lose focus…like I did!

We live far enough from town that grocery shopping is an event, and we try to limit it as much as possible. We really don’t menu plan; rather, we check what’s on sale, and work around that. Also, we buy in bulk – 20 pound bags of sugar and oatmeal, sides of pork, and such, so we always have certain staples kicking around. Right now, the garden is just coming into its own, so we’re buying less veggies, too 🙂
