Frugal Home Reasons to own a Wood Stove

March 22, 2022 By Michelle Knight Leave a Comment

My dream is to someday have a wood burning stove for our frugal home. I absolutely love the idea. My favorite part of camping is sitting by the open fire, drinking a hot coffee and conversation with my family. Watching a fire is peaceful, calming and overall uninhibited activity. Fire is so unpredictable, that when you are watching the flames they never do the same thing twice. My mind can think and brainstorm so much when I sit quietly by a fireplace at a hotel.

Wood stoves now provide the same inviting calmness into your frugal home. Since they have been updated, some resemble a fireplace with an open glass to view the fire inside. On the outside they keep the room toasty. In the winter who wouldn’t want to curl up with a good book by the wood stove.

I have listed several logical reasons a frugal home would have a wood stove, and then a bonus. Hopefully, you will be convinced to try a wood stove idea in the future.

Wood is a Cheaper Route to Heat

Wood is cheaper than running the HVAC system. This natural element can be found on almost any home lot, forest, purchased from others who choose to chop and sell as a business. This resource is readily available. As a result of installing a wood stove, your frugal home will become self reliant.

Efficient and Productive for a Frugal Home

A wood stove is productive and efficient for several reasons. First, they will heat your home quickly. Heat rises, so they will also heat the upstairs. Combined with a ceiling fan working counterclockwise in the upstairs and downstairs this will help to circulate the air.

Second, wood is a renewable source. Trees’ are located everywhere which in turn is a good sign the wood stove will be used for a long time. Chopping wood is a good exercise. Chopping wood is a good activity to pass down to younger generations.

Keeping a wood bin filled is a focus point in the room. Who doesn’t like to see a wood burning stove with a filled wood bin? It is picturesque.

Finally, a wood stove is a great back up plan in the winter. If the electricity goes out a wood stove will heat the house.

Safety Features for Wood Stoves Have Improved

The safety features of a wood stove has improved in the last 40 years’s. How? The appliances and parts have been improved. People selling wood stoves have to know what they are selling, how they are selling, and actually be certified. Finally, knowledge of placement in the home, and a flame resistant shield now gives homeowners more peace of mind to install a wood burning stove.

Bonus to Installing a Wood Stove

In addition to warmth, convenience, exercise, safety and the other reasons that are listed, the bonus reason is to save money. We don’t know what will happen with fossil fuels. Although, so much is changing, but what doesn’t change is our ability to control what is within reach. We can cut our own wood and become more self sufficient. Saving money is becoming harder and harder. Inflation is rising and the dollar value isn’t.

Besides, investing in something for the future that is a tangible makes sense. Frugal home families know and understand the best way to make a dollar go further.
