Startup costs for a cloth diaper service is on the lower end, making it a good choice for frugal moms. Businesses with high startup costs are do not work for frugal minded moms who are trying to open more doors by bringing in a passive income.
Several years ago I started my stay at home journey that led into me becoming the frugal homeschool mom who lives on a suburban homestead. Who knew there were so many options to bring in money and teach my kids how to live a sustainable life intertwined in entrepreneurship. Our options are endless with ways to bust through the glass ceiling of money.
This cloth diaper service is perfect with a niche already in place. What I like about the service business is that first, it helps new moms to try cloth diapers which are truly a better choice for their babies. Second, it allows for frugal moms who want to make money from home to have that opportunity.
Cloth Diaper Business Supplies
Cloth diapers of course are a number one necessity. The amount needed per customer is around 80. That would leave enough for three weeks. One week of diapers for the client, one week in the laundry and one week as a backup. The next step to figure out on cost is how many clients will be serviced each week.
Diaper bags to deliver the clean diapers, and diaper bags to leave with the customer for a dirty laundry bag. Next is a washing machine. Using your own washer is what most moms do who are running a frugal business from home. Keeping big costs down is important.
Then, the car to be used would also be one that you currently own. Buying a new vehicle is not a necessary startup. Rubber gloves and detergent safe for babies are also important supplies for this business.
Startup Plan For Frugal Moms Passive Income
Ideally, setting up a daily pickup and laundry schedule is an efficient way to run a cloth diaper business. For example, pickups start on one list of clients, drop offs on another list, and finally about 4 hours per day for folding, washing and prepping into the delivery bags.
At home, organizing the client bags in one location with possible color coding is one way to keep down chaos. Also, setting up a pick up and drop off schedule is good for time management.
Cloth Diaper Target Market
Of course cloth diaper service are for new moms with discretionary income. Finding moms who are interested in a safer way to diaper their baby is where marketing efforts should be directed.
After establishing the target market, obtain the necessary business permits, licenses and insurance. Most frugal moms shop around to get the best insurance affordably. A word of advice, don’t go with the first person who is on the list of calls.
Customer Service Tips for Frugal Moms
Number one rule is to always treat the customer with respect. Hear their complaints and acknowledge them. Really, they are the backbone of your success. Growth is going to come from word of mouth. Provide the best service and word will get out to there friends who are having babies.
People buy from people they trust and like.
Finally, market with doulas and midwives. Stop in their offices and visit with them one on one. Let them get to know you. Also, flyers work well in hospitals with swag bags. Post party nurses are people who need to know about what you offer. Last but not least, start a website.
