Frugal Home Repair Tips

March 27, 2019 By Michelle Knight Leave a Comment

Home repairs can be costly. To say the least they are a major home expense. Remodeling or fixing a part of our home that is broken is not a matter of just going to the store to buy what we need.

Our family does save in a lot other areas so that when we do update it isn’t breaking the bank. I always start everything with a list. From the list I can add to or take away what is needed. Visually decorating in my head with a few ideas from Pinterest helps to pull plans together.

Frugal Home  Repairs

Every year I create a room by room list of what I want to update, repair or replace. Keeping our home in order , and updated is important. Our family also homeschools so we are in our home all day. Updating can very expensive to do as a whole, but if done in chunks or segments it is more affordable.

As I create my list of repairs I add them to a calendar to know when there is time to start the project. It is ongoing and each year there are items on the list. Some years a whole room needs to be remodeled, then some years there is just a decoration to be added.

Keeping a home updated is a job. Some people say that they want homes that do not need constant upkeep. If that home exists it won’t for long. All homes can be kept fresh with change on a budget.

Frugal places to shop for home repairs

Shopping for items on my frugal home repair list can take some time to get a good bargain. This list may go unfinished until I find the object or sale that I will pay. Goodwill, garage sales, stores such as target, big lots or the dollar tree are my general places to update my home. My list is kept on my phone so that I can easily access in a store.

Pinterest is also a big help when I need to put decorations together to match or pull together a plan. Knowing the budget ceiling for a room and what it will take involves a lot of patience. As a goal minded person it is hard sometimes to wait until I see how much I saved in my waiting. Getting something that is regularly $10.00 for $1.00 is euphoric!

Taking control of home repairs and creating a timeline to accomplish the repairs is the first step to easier home management. Creating a list of needs and wants from the repair list is the first step toward a bigger savings on the purchases needed.

My facebook page welcomes all frugal minded comments or suggestions. Please share if you found this helpful.

Cheers,

Michelle
