Five Quick And Frugal Floor Cleaning Products

January 12, 2015 By Michelle Knight 5 Comments

Over the years I have used five quick and frugal floor cleaning products.  They were quick because they did not take long to use and dried fast, and they were frugal because I bought them in bulk or used good old water.

Floor cleaning products can be expensive over time.  It is important when choosing one that you get exactly what you want.

From my days of home cleaning my go to “cheap” all purpose floor cleaner was vinegar. I still use white vinegar on my laminate floors in my home.  It cleans, is safe, and very frugal.

I would rather spend my money on a vacation, not on my floors that will be dirty again in a few days. That is why frugal is important.  When I owned my housecleaning business it helped me to keep costs down which in turn helped to boost my customer ratio.
Here is my list of favorite cleaners:
1.  Pine-Sol- For an aroma that was pleasing I would use the lemon scent, but if it was to disinfect a bathroom from germs then the original scent was used.
2.  White Vinegar–  White vinegar really does clean floors well.  If used in small amounts the smell is not overwhelming, and it will not streak.  The trick is to use very little with water.  Follow the grain on laminate floors.  Then when finished use a dry flathead mop to dry and buff.  Floors will shine and people will rave!
3.  Murphy’s Oil Soap– This can be purchased by the gallon at Sam’s club.  A little bit goes a long way.

4.  Hot water and  Dawn Dish soap– This combination is great for floors that need a little extra scrubbing.  Do not use on laminate or hardwoods because it will ruin them.  Tile floors are perfect for this cleaner because it gets them really clean, and does not leave a residue.

5.  Pledge– This was a little on the pricey side at grocery stores, but if bought in larger quantities it will last and make floors shine.  It also does not leave a residue.  When using on laminate or hardwoods mop with the grain and use a flathead mop.

This list contains all of the floor cleaners that I used professionally cleaning homes.  If you are as picky as I am about my floors then read my first post on the steps to cleaner floors.

Happy cleaning!

I agree. Vinegar is one of the best natural cleaning agents that you have easy access to at home. Not only does it wash away the dirt, but it disinfects the area as well. However, it shouldn’t be used too often, so that you can keep your laminate floors from tarnishing too soon and having a strong scent of vinegar. Haha!.

You should write a book on this. I’d be described as a buyer right away.

The tips are great and quite useful. Last few months I started trying different recipes for homemade cleaners and I honestly prefer using these more simple solutions, than store bought detergents. Your tips gave me some good ideas. Thank you for sharing!
