Why Make Your Own Frugal Home Toilet Bowl Cleaner?

May 7, 2024 By Michelle Knight Leave a Comment

When my children were born, we went down to one income. I wanted to stay home, so that meant our home became a very frugal home. What that meant was I had to pare down my spending in many areas. The grocery budget was the first place I started. One way that I found to whittle away at the overall grocery budget was to buy less cleaners.

Buying less cleaners also meant that I had to learn how to make homemade cleaning solutions. First, I was perplexed on how I would make pledge, lysol toilet bowl cleaner, windex and other products. After much research I happened upon a journey that I have continued fifteen years later.

Why Make Your Own Frugal Home Toilet Bowl Cleaner.

Frugal Home Yearly Savings

Our savings on making homemade cleaning products saved us a substantial amount on our yearly grocery budget. I started to use baking soda and white vinegar. Buying them both in bulk allowed me to only purchase them once a month, if that. After I saw the real savings our frugal home toilet bowl cleaner was permanently going to be baking soda and white vinegar. In addition to this cleaner, I also use dawn dish soap. Both are saving us money.

Another way that I saw the savings was the amount of money being spent on my cleaners. Some of them were close to five dollars or more, and I used it daily in my bathrooms and other places. Once I saw that this spending was not necessary then, I really focused on not buying store made and focused on homemade.

Reasons To DIY Cleaning Products

There are several reasons to start a frugal home DIY homemade cleaning overhaul. First is the cost. Second is the ingredients are easy to find and simple. Another reason is the fact that when you run out, you can make more if you need it. Which, saves time and gas because you don’t have to make another trip to the store.

We have been sold through commercials and other means that we absolutely need to get on board and buy our cleaning products. We don’t. It is simple, and the time that it takes to mix together a bottle of vinegar with baking soda is minutes. Prior to 1980 I think most cleaning products in the home were basic.

Learn How To Do Something From Scratch

Learning how to make and self sustain by homemade cooking and creating homemade cleaning products is extremely satisfying. When you make your own cleaning products your recipe is your own. if you want to add 3 cups of baking soda to 1 cup of vinegar for toilet bowl cleaner it’s fine.

Be creative and try new things. Frugal home mom’s find new ways to save and making your own cleaning products is one.

Non-Toxic Ingredients Are Multipurpose

Finally, making your own homemade products from wood furniture cleaner to toilet bowl cleaner is satisfying because you are not subjecting your family to a bunch of chemicals. We really do not need to be using anything that has a name we cannot pronounce.

Frugal home toilet bowl cleaner is safe and effective. For toilet bowl rings use a limestone and then flush. Setting aside a little time each month to mix up your own homemade DIY cleaning ingredients will be something that you enjoy. I am currently teaching my children how to make up our homemade cleaning products and I feel a lot safer with them using vinegar and baking soda versus toilet bowl cleaner with long named chemicals.
