Hiring a Cleaning Service in a Frugal Home

June 10, 2019 By Michelle Knight Leave a Comment

Prioritizing is important. During specific seasons in life, some homes may need to look into hiring cleaning help. In those certain seasons of life using funds that are allocated for this service still allows for a family to live frugally Frugal Home families need help too. Moderation is important, so hiring help everyday vs. once a month would be different. A frugal home would hire help as needed and not go overboard.
Having someone else clean your home is a dream come true. As a homeschool mom I really wish that I could cast all my money spending ways aside and hire a house cleaner.

Hiring a good, honest and dependable house cleaner is hard.

Where we spend our money is important. I keep a budget and track our money well, but having someone clean my home seems like a luxury. Hiring someone to clean my home really seems like that is something that falls in my job description.

The reality is that we are all busy, and need to live in a clean home. Someone is going to clean the home. Clean homes are a necessity but who will do it, mom or a company? Residential house cleaning services are very nice, but a lot of them are going job to job. When looking for a company to hire that needs to be the top question. Asking them of the quality of work they will deliver is a good idea.

Before I would hire a house cleaning service my first question to myself would be how often would I need to have my home cleaned. If the residential cleaner charged by the hour or by the job. for me to spend the money on a cleaning service it would have to be a special occasion. Hiring someone to do a job that I am able to do, seems unnecessary. Cleaning is therapeutic for me. I love to bask in the fact that I cleaned and take pride in my job.

How To Hire an Efficient House Cleaner and Still Be Frugal

What To Look For In A House Cleaning Service

Do a background check. This is important because the company is responsible for your home. Essentially, hiring someone that may prove to be untrustworthy would be disastrous.

Ask them a few questions and feel out responses. Don’t interrogate but do ask for references. Emphasize that your family needs them and would rely on their services.

See how long they have been in business. The best house cleaners are moms who want to make money now that their kids are grown. Cleaning companies skim over the surfaces and overcharge. Having the same person each week helps them to get to know what you expect.

  Hiring an Efficient Housecleaner

The absolute best housecleaner may already be in the house. In the last 10 years, I have learned to be an efficient housecleaner for myself. After I came to terms with the fact that I really did not want strangers in my home, and especially ones that I had to pay.

We live in our home. That is just it, we pay for it, we sleep in it, and we should clean it. Setting up a system like the flylady, or the sidetracked home executives boils down to systems and routines. Just because a housecleaner can come in and clean the entire home in  a day doesn’t mean to spend that money.

It is just like spending a ton of money at a nice restaurant…it is not tangible. At some point I will be hungry again and my house will be dirty. Our family has a daily chore system set up with our kids that we follow no matter what is happening. I want them to take pride in their home. Hours do not need to be spent cleaning the home if time is spent a little each day on a few tasks. Currently, I have all of my zones written out, and I utilize my morning routine. Having a morning routine and bed routine is a lifesaver.

Hiring out cleaning services is a great idea if you have the extra money and time to train them. Just like a job, it will take them time to get into a routine. On the flip side cleaning your own home, then pocketing what you would have paid a company will stay in line with a frugal living lifestyle. Why go to the trouble to save money if you spend some on  a luxury? A sale is not a sale because it still requires money.

Clean your own home, or hire it out? Answer in the comments and let me know what you do.

Cheers,
Michelle
